The Arvanites of Eastern Thrace: The Oldest Inhabitants of the Region
Contrary to the claims of various historians, the Arvanites of Eastern Thrace are not immigrants to this region, but rather the oldest inhabitants, descended from the ancient Thracians and Illyrians who founded Byzantium. This ancient and rich origin of the Arvanites has been hidden for a long time, but now comes to light and challenges the old and incorrect notions about the origins of the Arvanites.
A Critical Examination of the Migration Theory
The theory that Arvanite communities outside of present-day Albania migrated from various regions of that country is challenged by a critical examination. This theory is based on the existence of common placeonyms in Albania and areas with Arvanite populations. However, this theory is argued to be incorrect, as it fails to explain why the Arvanites of Eastern Thrace, who supposedly migrated from Albania but they are Vlachs, but they speak only Arvanitika and have Arvanitika surnames, with no knowledge of the Vlach language.
Challenging the Notion of a Single Albanian Homeland
The notion that the Arvanites of various regions, including ancient Greece, Lower Italy, Eastern Thrace, and others, originated from the mountainous regions of present-day Albania, is challenged by a critical examination. This theory is considered illogical, as it would imply that the Arvanites were still inhabiting the same regions in Albania, which is not supported by historical evidence.
